Professional Development

shrmlogo_smallI have been a member of the Society for Human Resource Management since March of 2016 and will continue to be for the rest of my professional career in HR.

At Temple, I am a member of TUSHRM and an active member of the Community Service Committee.  The most recent event I attended was volunteering at Broad Street Ministries which is a restaurant style soup kitchen that gives aid to the homeless of Philadelphia.  They feed and provide donated clothing to their visitors and do so in an extremely dignifying manner.

E-Portfolio Consultant – Fall 2016, Spring 2017

To give back to my immediate HR community I have been an e-portfolio consultant holding office hours and conducting workshops to help students improve their HRM community e-portfolios.  This has been a great learning experience in that it gives me experience being a consultant for my classmates and also with the functions of WordPress, which can be a confusing software for those who are not tech-savvy.

Inclusion Leadership Conference 2017 – Hosted by Campus Philly at Temple

2/11/17 – This was a wonderful event, especially for an HR major, to attend!  Hundreds of students from 25 different schools in the area came together on a Saturday morning to further their knowledge on subjects relevant to any leader in today’s world.

Some of the key sessions I chose to attend were a seminar on transgender issues in society and a presentation by Therapy Note on how to interact with those suffering from mental illnesses.  To say the least, my eyes were opened on some matters that I do not know enough about, especially if I intend to pursue a career in HR.
